Covid quarantine not required for fully vaccinated Indians travelling to the UK from October 11

Indians who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine will not be quarantined when they arrive in the UK from October 11, the High Commissioner to India announced on Thursday, putting an end to a row over the imposition of COVID-19 quarantine rules, which were seen as unfair.

“No quarantine for Indian travellers to UK fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine from 11 October. Thanks to the Indian government for close cooperation over last month.” Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, tweeted on Thursday.

On October 01, India had reportedly imposed a mandatory quarantine of ten days on citizens from the United Kingdom visiting India as a reciprocal measure.

The decision to relax the norms will benefit “Indian businessmen and indian students“, the British envoy noted.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the UK also said that from Monday, 47 countries will be removed from its travel “red list”. “Red list reduced to 7 destinations (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela),” a UK government release said.

From October 15, India will begin issuing tourist visas

India will resume issuing tourist visas to foreigners arriving on chartered planes from October 15, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Foreign visitors entering India on flights other than chartered aircraft will be eligible to do so solely on fresh tourist visas beginning November 15, 2021,” the ministry noted.
